The Coast of Cornwall in Art

This lecture takes you on a journey through time round the coast of Cornwall from the Lizard to Falmouth,  Newlyn, Mousehole and St Ives.  It moves from paintings and engravings made in the 18th and early 19th centuries by artists such as J.M.W. Turner, Clarkson Stansfield and William Daniell, through the era of impressionism and expressionism with artists such as Terrick Williams and Oskar Kokoschka, to contemporary artists such as Robert Jones and Sarah Adams.

Catherine Wallace  holds a degree in Fine Art from Canterbury College of Art, and a Masters in Museums and Gallery Studies (Art History) from St Andrews. She was curator of Falmouth Art Gallery 1993-2000 and has organised exhibitions on Women Artists in Cornwall 1880-1940, on Thomas Cooper Gotch and on Henry Scott Tuke. She has lectured to the Friends of Penlee House Gallery, Friends of Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery and the Royal Institution of Cornwall and has published Under the Open Sky: The Paintings of the Newlyn and Lamorna Artists 1880 – 1940.
