Church Recorders are Arts Society volunteers who make records of the contents of our national churches, thereby promoting the recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage to be found in places of worship of all religions.
They record memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library, windows and miscellaneous items. The items are described in detail and their history researched. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This record is presented to the church and copies are sent to national institutions to form part of a heritage archive.
Having completed a record of St John the Baptist at Fladbury and presented a bound copy to the church the Group is now finalsing its record of St Peter’s, Hinton-on-the-Green whilst undertaking field work on St Kenelm’s at Upton Snodsbury.
Anyone interested in the work of the Group is invited to contact Carolyn Harford at cj.harford@gmail.com or Andrew Simpson at asimpson@larcharisaig.com.
